How to Get to the University of Washington
General location
The University of Washington is located in northeast Seattle, just north of
the Ship Canal and east of Interstate 5. The main campus is bounded on the
west by 15th Avenue NE, on the east by 25th Avenue/Montlake Boulevard, on
the north by NE 45th Street, and on the south by NE Pacific Street. Here
are some maps of the city.
Parking information
There are automobile entrances to campus on the north side
(NE 45th Street at 17th Ave),
west side (15th Ave NE at 40th St),
and east side (25th Ave NE just south of the 45th St viaduct).
On weekdays and Saturday mornings, the kiosks at all campus entrances will
be open, and you can get an all-day visitor parking permit for $5.00, and a
free
campus map. On Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings, the kiosks are
closed and parking is free.
Convenient visitors' parking is available in the Central Plaza Garage,
which you enter from 15th Avenue across from 41st Street; or in lot N-1
next to the Burke Museum at the northwest corner of campus, which you can
get to from the campus entrances on 45th Street and on 25th Ave.
Take Interstate 5, but do not get on the express lanes. Exit at NE
45th Street, about 4 miles north of downtown Seattle and just north of the
Ship Canal bridge. Turn east on NE 45th; you'll soon cross Roosevelt Way
(which would be 10th Avenue if it had a number), 12th Ave, Brooklyn Ave
(13th), and University Way (14th). After you cross 15th Ave, the
university will be on your right.
-
By car:
-
From the airport, follow the "Freeways" signs until you start seeing signs
for Interstate 5. Get on I-5 North (toward Seattle). Drive through
downtown Seattle (about 20 minutes if the traffic isn't bad),
and across the Ship Canal. Exit at
NE 45th St., and follow the instructions for Arriving by car above.
-
By taxi:
-
Look for a cab waiting outside the airport baggage claim area, or call at
one of the Traveler's Information Centers.
It will cost
about $35-$40 to get to the University, but you can put as many people as
you like in the cab for the same fare.
-
By shuttle van:
-
After you get your baggage, call Shuttle Express
at 206-622-1424 or 800-487-7433, or
go to one of the Traveler's
Information Centers and dial 48. They will pick you
up at the airport and drop you off anywhere near the University
for $21 ($28 for two people).
