Moving frames

Peter Olver
(University of Minnesota)

I will describe a new, practical approach to the theory of moving frames. The method is completely algorithmic, and applies to general Lie group actions, where it provides a rigorous justification of Cartan's method, as well as infinite-dimensional Lie pseudo-groups. Applications to differential invariants, equivalence problems, symmetry, and rigidity, as well as image processing and computer vision will be discussed.
