Non-commutative determinants and non-commutative geometry

Vladimir S. Retakh
(Harvard and University of Arkansas)

A new approach to noncommutative algebra and geometry, based on a notion of quasideterminants introduced by I. Gelfand and the speaker, will be discussed. Relations with some problems in noncommutative algebra and geometry, graph theory, noncommutative symmetric functions, noncommutative continued fractions, and physics will be outlined.
