Workshop structure
For those who arrive by dinner time Friday, we'll organize an
informal get-together dinner at a restaurant close to the Silver
Cloud Inn. People should congregate in the Silver Cloud's lounge around
7pm.
Saturday morning will consist of presentations by selected participating
VIGRE sites, discussing what has worked, what they have
discovered (perhaps even accidentally), and what things have not
turned out as well as originally planned. We'll also hear from
Tom Russell at DMS about the NSF's prespectives.
After a break for lunch, we'll discuss future directions for
efforts to increase participation in the mathematical sciences,
in the context of upcoming NSF initiatives. One goal is to supply
DMS with "nuggets" of successes from VIGRE sites. Another is to
make constructive suggestions to NSF for improving VIGRE and its
relatives.
The Workshop will conclude on Saturday evening with a no-host social hour and dinner
at Ivar's Salmon House, a Seattle tradition.
