Students
performed better in MATH124 (M = 3.23)
than in MATH125 (M = 2.94), F(1,3055) = 595, p < 10-120.
A
significant difference between MATH124 and MATH125 grades was observed all
three years.
Grades
in both MATH courses increased from 1997-98 to 2003-04, F(3,3055) = 18.89, p <
10-23. For MATH124, each
year’s average grade was higher than the year preceding it, F(3,3253) = 27.81, p < 10-12. For
MATH125, average grades in the 3 years post-1997 were: 1) higher than
1997-1998, but 2) statistically equivalent to one another, F(3,3253) = 18.83, p <
10-12.
Women
and men performed similarly in MATH 124 (Ms
= 3.22 vs. 3.23), but in MATH 125 women (M
= 3.00) outperformed men (M = 2.91), F(1,3429) = 9.3, p = .002. Follow-up analyses
revealed significant differences between men’s and women’s average grades in
2001-2 and 2002-3.
