Student Guide:

Week 2 contains precalculus review material on parametric equations, then initiates the study of calculus. The material in 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 is the beginning of calculus; you should thoroughly read these sections of the text.

  • The websupplement on parametric equations will bring the key terminology surrounding parametric equations into focus. We include a couple of parametric equation problems in the homework.
  • An introduction to average and instantaneous velocity occurs in the worksheet. You will spend much more time on this in class.
  • The week will contain an introduction to "limits"; this is the singular new idea that sets calculus apart from previous math courses you have taken. Limits are the key foundation upon which all of calculus depends.
  • Our focus is on understanding limits, both graphically and computationally.
