Montlake Math Challenge

Welcome to the Montlake Math Challenge! The MMC is an after school program for students who love math and want to extend their knowledge and understanding beyond the standard school curriculum. The focus will be on hands-on exploration, discovery, discussions, and games based on mathematical ideas. Yet, the class is a serious endeavor. Students will be expected to have their brains working, keep their attention on the problem in hand, and put some effort into homework.

Meeting Times: Thursdays, 3:10-4:10
Location: Room 9 (Mr. Schultz' classroom)
Instructors: Eric Nitardy, Natalie Hobson
Contact Information: nithardt [at] u [dot] washington [dot] edu

If you would like to enroll your child in Montlake Math Challenge, return the registration form (second page of this flyer) to the office by September 27, 2011.

About instructors:

Eric Nitardy: After working in the horticulture industry for many years, Eric has rekindled a childhood interest in mathematics and is retraining to teach it. He is a recent graduate of the University of Washington where he earned the math departmentŐs outstanding Bachelor of Science award. This last summer, he was the residential life director for the math department's summer program for high school students, the Summer Institute in Mathematics at UW. He looks at math as bit of an art and a bit of a science but always challenging and fun.

Natalie Hobson: Natalie is a senior at the University of Washington majoring in Mathematics with minors in Education and Diversity. Natalie loves working with math and people. For the past two summers she has been a counselor at the Summer Institute in Mathematics at UW (SIMUW) and has had a numerous amount of other math tutoring experiences. Natalie is very excited to be working with the Montlake Math Challenge this year!
