TA Training and Supervision in the Mathematics Department
at the University of Washington

Math Teaching Assistant (TA) Coordinator (TAC) for 2007-2008:
Prof. William McGovern, email: mcgovern@math.washington.edu

Lead TA for 2007-2008:
Ursula Whitcher, email: ursula at math dot washington dot edu

The TAC and the TA Advisory Committee (TAAdC) are in charge of departmental training and (together with the Graduate Program Coordinator) supervision of TAs in the Mathematics Department. TAs teaching quiz sections are directly supervised by the lecturer for the course, and learning about teaching occurs naturally in the close contact between TAs and their lecturers. The TAC and the Lead TA organize and lead a week of orientation and TA Training (TAT) before the fall quarter begins, and serve as consultants for TAs and faculty working with TAs throughout the year.

Schedule for Grad Student Orientation and TA Training for Fall, 2007

The textbook for TAT is the UW Mathematics Department TA Manual:

TA Manual, Fall 2007 edition

(Hard copies of the 2007 edition will be given to new TAs at TAT.)
