Prerequisites for the Honors (Accelerated Calculus Sequences)

To be eligible for Math 134, a student must have completed a full-year high school calculus course, and have an AP score of 4 or more, or equivalent. Students entering Math 134 should know the basic techniques of differentiation and integration; they need not have any background in theoretical mathematics. The most important prerequisite is enthusiasm and talent for mathematics, and a desire to understand concepts rather than just to master problem solving techniques. The Mathematics Advisor in C-36 Padelford will evaluate student's test scores and answer questions concerning the suitability of the Accelerated (Honors) Sequence of Calculus. Registration for these classes will require an entry code and permission of the instructor. Upon completion of Math 134 with a satisfactory grade, students may receive 5 additional credits (Math 124) and upon completion of Math 135, they may receive another 5 additional credits (Math 125). This is not done automatically. Students must go to Grade Recording, second floor Schmitz Hall upon completion of each course and apply for the credit. There is a form to be filled out. No additional credit will be given for completion of Math 136. Students who received AP credit as a result of passing the Advanced Placement Exams will not receive additional credit. No additional credit is given for the 334, 335, 336 sequence.
