End of Term

Final Exam Stats: Top Quartile: 94/100,  MEDIAN: 90/100, Low Quartile: 79.5/100
Class Grades Stats: Top Quartile: 3.8, MEDIAN: 3.4, Low Quartile: 2.6

Grades are now posted in Catalyst. PLEASE READ THIS FIRST BEFORE EMAILING ME:

* ALL your scores are posted, including those dropped. As stated in the syllabus, your lowest non-blank homework, activity, and participation grade were NOT counted towards your respective averages, even though they do appear in your grade record. (The dropping happens in calculations.) Any blank score is excused and is also not counted toward your grade.

* As you can see from the grades statistics above, the grades were quite high. Consequently, there was no curving (if I curved, it would've lowered your grade). That is, I applied the posted grading scale. Percentages are not rounded up. If it says you need 96% for 4.0, it means you must have at least 96%.

* If you'd like to see your final exam, you can come to my office at the office hours posted below. It helps to know your quiz section.
You are welcome to keep your final, but you must verify it before leaving my office.

I will not do re-grades after your exam was removed from my office.

Office hours: during the first week of Spring Quarter: Tuesday 1-3, Wednesday 1:30-2:30, Padelford C-326
Later this Spring Quarter you can follow this link and just drop by at any of the office hours listed there that are held in my office.

* If you notice any recording errors in your gradebook, you can bring me the corresponding assignments or exams to verify and correct.
(Please be aware that modifying an assignment and then asking for a grade correction is a serious attempt at cheating, and will be submitted to the university's committee for academic misconduct)

HAVE A GOOD SPRING BREAK!

Previous Weeks:

         Midterm Solutions: version 1 & version 2

    Example of Grade Computations

MIDTERM 2:  in quiz section. There will be 3-5 problems on 3-4 pages, from the material covered since the last midterm.
*  Here are the midterm rules & advice,
*  and a list of main skills to review and practice (<- updated with some references to problems in the Exam Archive)
*  and a list of the business terms covered and their formulas.
*  and a direct link to the Exam Archive (scroll down to Midterm II)

Note: I decided to skip most of WS 14 and I removed WS14 from the homework due this week. However, I did cover in lecture (and expect you to know) two things that are normally discussed in WS 14:
1) How to compute the functions for TR and TC if you have functions for AR and AC
2) How to determine max profit when TR-TC is a quadratic. In particular, you want to read and understand the difference between the correct rounding procedures described in italic text at the top of page 103 in your textbook.

Week 4 ("back to school")

.

In Lecture: On  Monday I'll discuss a little more about Worksheet 5, then do WS 6. We'll then cover WS 7 on Wednesday and WS 8 on Friday.

Posted Materials:
Here are the translation guidelines and patterns  (using the temperature example from Wednesday's lecture) + a copy of the table from the handout for WS 6 filled in, to check your answers.

Homework 2:
Turn in Worksheets 4 & 5 this TUESDAY in Quiz section
(do your best to finish this homework by Monday or earlier, but you will have until your Tuesday's quiz section to turn it in. No later!)
Homework 3:  turn in Worksheets 6 & 7 on THURSDAY in Quiz section, or by 3:30pm in the box outside my office.

I recommend making a copy of your homework before turning it in, because it might not be returned to you until after the midterm.

Do Worksheet 8 ASAP. It will not be collected, but it will be covered by next week's midterm.

In quiz section Tuesday: Test Prep, Homework Q&A, Turn in HWK 2 (WS 4&5)
In quiz section Thursday: Activity 2, some hwk Q&A if there's time, Turn in HWK 3 (WS 6&7)
NOTE: The concepts and formulas covered by THURSDAY'S ACTIVITY (fixed cost, variable cost, average variable cost) will be used and ASSUMED KNOWN in FRIDAY'S LECTURE.

Welcome!

First day of class is Tuesday. You will meet your TA, get the syllabus, and go over parts of the Prologue.

Things to do ASAP:
