End of Term

Final Exam Stats: Top Quartile: 89/100,  MEDIAN: 80/100, Low Quartile: 67/100
Class Grades Stats: Top Quartile: 3.6, MEDIAN: 3.0, Low Quartile: 2.3

Grades are now posted in Catalyst. PLEASE READ THIS GRADES FAQ CAREFULLY FIRST:
* ALL your scores are posted, including those dropped. As stated in the syllabus, your lowest 2 non-blank participation grades were NOT counted towards your respective averages, even though they do appear in your grade record. The dropping happens in calculations. Any blank score is excused and is also not counted toward your grade.
* Sorry, there is no extra credit. The only valid reason for a grade change is if we made a grading error.
* For the top half of the class (which performed well), I applied the posted Grading Scale. Percentages are not rounded up (that is, if it says you need 97% for 4.0, it means you must have at least 97%.)
* For the bottom half of the class (which performed lower), I "curved" my grading scale by 1-3%. Accordingly, the minimum % for a 2.0 ended up being 72%.
* If you'd like to see your final exam, you can just stop by at my office hours posted below. Please let me know your class (Math 111), your quiz section (AA, etc), and your name. You are welcome to review your exam and ask any questions, but once you remove the exam from my office you cannot bring it back later for any re-grade.
                                   Office hours: Monday, 4/1, 1:30-2:30pm, Wednesday, 4/3, 2-3pm.
You can also pick up your exam without any appointment at any of my spring quarter office hours that are held in my office (Mondays, 1:30-3:30pm). Or, you can email me for an appointment; if you do, list all your free times for a period of at least 2-3 days.

Have a good Spring Break!

Previous weeks:

Final Exam Info:   Saturday, March 16, 5-7:50pm, in KNE 130
Bring Photo ID and please wait outside of the room until we invite you in (at about 4:50pm)

The final will be cumulative, covering all the material since the beginning of the quarter.
You are allowed to use: a scientific (non-graphing) calculator; a clear plastic ruler; one two-sided sheet of handwritten notes. Using an inappropriate note-sheet or any extra papers is a form of academic misconduct.

To prepare for the exam, I suggest the following:
* Re-read through your lecture notes. Make your sheet of notes as you do this. Include definitions, formulas, and big ideas.
* Re-work any homework problems that you found difficult the first time through.
* Re-do all group activities and test prep questions from quiz section.
* To review the new material, covered since the last midterm: Chapter 6 Main Topics for Review,
Extra practice: In Webassign, assignment "Chapter 6, Practice Problems"
* To review the material of Midterm 1:
Review the Supplementary reading, especially the boxed summaries at the end of the sections!
Table of Rates, Review of Business Terms
      In Exam Archive: "Exam I"
In Webassign: "Math 111 Practice Problems from Text for Exam I"
* To review the material of Midterm 2:  Main topics covered, Review of Business Terms

In Exam Archive: "Exam II" (tests & practice problems)
* Work as many problems as you can from old exams (midterms as well as old finals.) You can find several old final exams at the Exam Archive, under "Final Exam". Practice working these problems like you would if you were taking a test: limit your time and distractions, use only your sheet of notes, and use the answers only to check your work. Do as many problems as you can stand.
