Homework Guidelines

Your homework assignments are an important part of this class and an essential tool in studying for exams. Since how you present your solutions is as important as getting the "right" answer, you should adhere to the following guidelines when preparing your homework for submission.

• Answer all numbered questions from the assigned sections of your textbook.
• Always show all your work. A correct answer is not enough for full credit. The final answers to most questions are provided for you; hence, the grader will be checking that you know how to get that answer, not just that you can write it down.
• You must put your name and your quiz section (for example, AC) in the top right-hand corner of your assignment.
• Be neat. Your grader must be able to easily read your solutions. (The grader may not give you credit otherwise.)
• Problems should appear in the correct order, leaving room for a grader to write comments, if necessary.
  Answer all questions from the assigned worksheets.
• For your convenience, copies of needed graphs and tables are provided at the end of the textbook. You can tear these off, fill in the work as appropriate, and turn them in with the rest of your homework.
• Cut off shaggy edges and staple your homework together. (The grader may refuse to accept it otherwise.)
• Homework is due in lecture on the posted due date, or in the box outside Dr. Nichifor's office (PDL C-326) no later than 2:30pm on the due date. Make sure it's stapled, labeled, and placed in the correct folder! If you turn in your assignment after 2:30pm on the due date, then your homework is late and will not be accepted.

GRADING: Your homework grade in this course has two components: a completion grade and an accuracy grade. You will receive some points in proportion to the number of the assigned problems you have completed, regardless of whether or not they were done correctly. In addition, each week, your instructors will choose 3 problems to be graded for correctness. We will not announce to you which problems will be graded. Therefore, it is important that you include a complete solution for each question. Students who make an honest attempt at every assigned problem will typically receive high scores on homework. Students who skip problems, do only half the assignment, or just write down the answers from the answer packet will receive low homework scores.
