Homework Guidelines

Your homework assignments are an important part of this class and an essential tool in studying for exams. Since how you present your solutions is as important as getting the "right" answer, you should adhere to the following guidelines when preparing your homework for submission.

GRADING: Your homework grade in this course has two components: a completion grade and an accuracy grade. You will receive some points in proportion to the number of the assigned problems you have completed, regardless of whether or not they were done correctly. In addition, each week, your instructors will choose 3 problems to be graded for correctness. We will not announce to you which problems will be graded. Therefore, it is important that you include a complete solution for each question. Students who make an honest attempt at every assigned problem will typically receive high scores on homework. Students who skip problems, do only half the assignment, or just write down the answers from the answer packet will receive low homework scores.

Homework will not be accepted late for any reason. Instead, I do not count your lowest score towards your average. This is meant to compensate for any one minor emergency (such as: forgot homework home, lost a page, did not feel well, etc). If you have a serious and documented reason for missing a homework's deadline (such as being ill, attending a UW-related athletic competition, etc), talk to me and provide your documentation.
