PREVIOUS WEEKS:

Week 1:

For Monday: Read Chapter 1 of the text and the class syllabus.
For Wednesday: Attempt the problems at the end of Chapter 1. Read Chapter 2.
For Friday:  Do problems 2.1 (i-iv), 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 (i), 2.5 (i). Read Chapter 3.


Week 2:

For Monday: Do pbls 3.2-3.6. Read Ch. 4. Start the 1st Graded Assignment.
For Wednesday:  Finish 1st Graded Assignment (due). Read 5.1.
For Friday Do problems 4.2-4.5. Read the rest of Chapter 5.

Homework 1 Stats: High Quartile: ≥48  (87%), Median = 44(80%), Low Quartile: ≤ 39 (71%)

Week 3 (4/12-4/18):

Do for Monday: Attempt the 2nd Graded Assignment. Finish Ch 5 and the induction handout.
For Wednesday:  Finish 2nd Graded Assignment (due). Read Chapter 6.
For Friday Do problems 6.2, 6.3, 6.5-6.7. Read Chapter 7.

Week 4 (4/21-4/25):

To do for Monday: Attempt the 3rd Graded Assignment. Read Chapter 7.
If you haven't done them already, do the practice pbls from Ch 6 (6.2, 6.3, 6.5-6.7)
For Wednesday:  Finish 3rd Graded Assignment (due). Do pbls 7.1, 7.2, 7.4 (i,ii,iv,v), 7.6, 7.7
For Friday Read Ch 8. Do pbls 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.5.

Week 5 (4/28-5/2):

To do for Monday: Read Chapter 9 (skip 9.4). Do pbls 9.1, 9.2, 9.3, 9.4, 9.7.
Attempt Assignment # 4. Look over the midterm review topics.
For Wednesday:  Finish the 4th Assignment (due). Start reviewing for the midterm.
For Friday Review for midterm. Do the Practice Problems.

Look over: Review topics & information and some practice problems (solutions, large pdf)
Note: My answer to practice pbl #12 regarding 2f wrongly assumes that f can be any function.
(the problem specifies that f:RR, while my example is f:Z
Z). For real-valued functions it is, in fact,
 true that f bijective implies 2f bijective. I’ll leave it to you to prove that 2f is surjective.
