There will be 4 homework assignments over the course of the quarter. These, together with classroom attendence/participation, will form the basis of your grade. There will be no exams for this class.

Students are very strongly encouraged to work together on the homework, however each student must write up his/her assignment individually, in their own words.

Homework assignment #1

• Reading: RM chapters 1-3
• Written Assignment: Due Friday October 10 in class
  
• Problems: RM # 3.6, 3.8, 3.9, 3.12
  (You will need the results of problems 3.10 and 3.11 for this last problem. I expect that you will therefore do 3.10 and 3.11 but I will leave it up to you as to whether you wish to hand in a written solution to those problems.)

• Reading: RM chapters 4-6
• Written Assignment: Due Friday October 24 in class
  
• Problems to be handed in: RM # 4.5, 5.1, 5.4, 5.11

Homework assignment #3

• Reading: RM chapters 7, 8 and 10
• Written Assignment: Due Friday November 14 in class
  
• Problems to be handed in: RM # 6.6, 6.10, 8.7, 8.9
  (Problems to do but not hand in: RM # 8.5, 8.6)

Homework assignment #4

• Reading: RM chapters 10 and 11
• Written Assignment: Due Monday, December 8 in class
  
• Exercises to be handed in: RM # 10.1, 10.2, 11.1
  Problems to be handed in: RM # 10.3 and 11.3
