Text: Apostol, Mathematical Analysis (2nd ed)

I recommend to look at other books besides the required text, for instance “Principles of Mathematical Analysis” (3rd ed.) by Rudin.

Course Description:  The purpose of this year-long course is to provide you with a rigorous introduction to the basic elements of analysis (limits, continuity, differentiation and integration). This quarter, we will cover Chapters 1 through 4, and parts of Chapter 8 if time allows. At the core of Winter quarter will be Chapters

5, 12 and 13, while Spring quarter will focus on integration (Lebesgue integral).

Grades :  Your grade will be determined from your scores on the Homework (35%),  the Midterm (25%) and the Final exam (40%).

Homework will be assigned daily, with varying due dates. Click here for the problems and due dates. Due to limited resources, only a small number of  homework problems will be graded. Note that not all of the assigned problems are to be turned in. No late homework will be accepted. The lowest weekly homework score will be dropped.

Exams:  You may use one sheet (two-sided) of handwritten notes. Calculators will not be allowed during the exams. The midterm is on Monday, October 29, in class. The final is on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2:30-4:20 (in our usual classroom SIG 227).
