This is the main course webpage for Math 310A, Introduction to Mathematical Reasoning. We meet MWF at 9:40 am, in Balmer 309. Office hours are Thursday, 1-2, and Wednesday, 11-12, in Padelford C-8-K. Feel free to drop by anytime, or email me to make an appointment outside of office hours.
Sample final exam problems are available here.
The last requirement: you must fill out one copy of this form (PDF) for every member of your group, including yourself. If I don't receive this from you, you will get an "incomplete" in the course until I do receive it. Please bring your completed forms to class on Friday, August 19. Here, "completed" means that you have answered every question. Please be frank and honest in your appraisals.
Here are a few pages on further directions in graph theory.
The final exam will be in two portions: one in-class exam, on Friday August 19, and an at-home portion. The in-class exam will be in the same format as our quizzes have been, only longer and harder. Sample problems are available here. The at-home portion will be a test of your expository skills. Please select two of the following problems, and write up their solutions as best you can. You may consult me or anyone else regarding the solution of the problem, all I care about for this is how well you write it up. I will collect your polished, cleanly written, beautifully worded solutions on the last day of class. I will also be available for questions on how to write, if you want advice. You are on your honor not to collaborate on the writing-up process.
The problems you may select from are:
3.43, 3.50, 3.64, 4.30, 4.32, 4.36, 5.31, 5.37, 6.48, 6.59, 6.65.
Again, this is meant to be a pure exercise in exposition. I will tell you the solutions of these problems if you ask. Your only burden should be the write-up. Details on extra office hours to follow, and as always you can email me (rosoff@math.washington.edu) for an appointment.
More to come.
