Summer Institute for Mathematics at  the University of Washington

Eric Nitardy

Eric Nitardy remembers really enjoying math class in high school, thirty some years ago, but was unsuccessful in his first attempt at college. Instead, he made a career for himself in horticulture, growing and selling ornamental plants.

Beginning several years ago, he started attending Everett Community College, and discovered to his surprise that not only did he still enjoy mathematics, but was pretty good at it. Since then, he has been working towards becoming a high school math teacher. He loves tutoring young people and adults in math and, for the last couple years, has conducted an after school "Math Challenge" with third, fourth and fifth graders in the Seattle Public Schools.

Eric was honored as the University of Washington math department's outstanding Bachelor of Science graduate in 2009 and plans to attend graduate school in Education in 2012.
