Summer Institute for Mathematics at  the University of Washington

John Palmieri

John Palmieri is a professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Washington. After formative years in a small town in Ohio, he studied physics briefly as an undergraduate before seeing the light and switching to mathematics. He received a Bachelor's degree from Swarthmore College in 1986, and a Ph.D. from M.I.T. in 1991. Following that, he had post-doctoral positions at various institutions before coming to the University of Washington in 1999.

Professor Palmieri's research is in topology, algebra, and interactions between them. He is also an active Sage developer. When he is not doing mathematics, he is probably swing dancing.
