MATH 124 Autumn 2000
Information about the Final Exam

The final exam is on Saturday 9 December from 1:30-4:20 p.m.. IT IS NOT IN OUR USUAL CLASSROOM. It is your responsibility to be in the right place at the right time. Sections 124 DA and 124DC take the exam in Johnson 101. Sections 124DB and 124DD take the exam in Johnson 006. If you are unable to attend the exam due to a serious illness or unforeseen emergency, please contact your instructor immediately.

The exam will cover the following sections of the book:
Chapter 1: sections 1,2,3,5,6
Chapter 2: sections 1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9
Chapter 3: sections 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,10,11
Chapter 4: sections 1,3,5,7,10

What to bring: You may bring one standard-size ( 81/2×11 inches), double-sided, handwritten sheet of notes. Alternatively, instead of one sheet of paper, you may bring four 4 ×6 inch sized notecards, double-sided, handwritten. Anything not sized as above, or computer or otherwise machine-generated (including photocopied) materials, will not be permitted. Also, you must bring both your student ID and photo ID; if you do not have proper ID, you will not be allowed to take the exam.

What not to bring: No other notes, books, or calculators will be allowed. The questions will be written so that calculators are unnecessary. You will be given sufficient paper to show all your work and do scratch work, so you don't need to bring any paper of your own (except for your notes sheet).

Exam format: Some questions will ask you to show all of your work, in which case correct answers with no supporting work may not receive full credit, and incorrect answers with no supporting work will receive no credit. For these questions partial credit may be awarded based on the work that you show. Other, generally shorter, questions will ask you just for your answer, in which case no partial credit will be awarded for an incorrect answer. For all questions, make sure that your final answer is written clearly and is clearly indicated. Any trigonometric functions of common angles (meaning any multiple of p/6 or p/4) must be evaluated; for example, you will not receive full credit for an answer with ``cos(2p/3)'' in it unless you replace ``cos(2p/3)'' with ``-1/2''.
