My father, Mikhail Zakharovich Solomyak, turned 75 in May 2006.
He is currently Professor Emeritus at the Weizmann Institute of Science.
There was a
conference
in his honor at Weizmann.
Below are a few pictures from his younger days, as well as photos of some of
his
teachers, colleagues, and students.

L. V. Kantorovich - unofficial graduate advisor (M.Z. was not admitted to graduate school; his documents were "lost")
O. A. Ladyzhenskaya and V. I. Smirnov. M. Z. was an active participant of
Smirnov's seminar in Mathematical Physics and PDE. O. A. was the "engine" of
the seminar. She helped M. Z. in choosing a topic for the Ph.D (Candidate of
Science) thesis. V. I. Smirnov helped M. Z. many times; in particular, he
was instrumental in bringing M. Z. to mat-mech LGU (Leningrad University,
Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics) in 1964

M. Sh. Birman and his wife Tatiana. Birman and Solomyak collaborated for many years and wrote together a monograph, a textbook, and 58 reasearch papers.
