Measure-preserving actions of the multiplicative integers: some new results and open problems

Date: May 4 at 2:30pm

Abstract:

Measure-preserving actions of the semigroup of multiplicative integers naturally arise in various areas of combinatorics and analysis. (Perhaps the most popular example of such an action is given by the family of transformations T_nx = nx mod1.) We shall survey some new applications to combinatorics and discuss some open problems related to Marstrand's negative result involving the above-mentioned family T_n.
