Course Information
- Lecture : MWF 11:30-12:20, LOW 201
- Topics to be covered : We will cover 4.22-4.23 and
Chapters 5, 12 and 13
in Apostol's "Mathematical Analysis," Second Edition. The sections
dealing with complex numbers will be omitted.
This quarter's material is less abstract than that of Math 424/574;
it is a rigorous proof-based study of differential calculus, in one and
several variables. There will be more "hard analysis" and working with
formulas and inequalities.
- Prerequisites : at least 2.0 in MATH 424/574 or Instructor's
permission.
- Homeworks (20% of overall grade) Weekly homework will be
assigned due on Wednesdays in class. No late homeworks will be
accepted. The TA will typically grade only 2-3 problems from each
homework assignment.
- Exams (80% of overall grade):
- Test I (20% of overall grade) : Friday, February 2, in class.
- Test II (20% of overall grade) : Friday, February 23 ---
Friday, March 2, take-home exam.
- Final Exam (40% of overall grade): 2:30-4:20 p.m. Wednesday,
March 14, in the usual classroom
