COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is the second quarter of the Real Analysis sequence. We begin with Differentiation and Integration (including
Hardy-Littlewood maximal function, Lebesgue differentiation theorem, functions of bounded variation, and absolutely
continuous functions and measures). Then we turn to Hilbert spaces (including the Radon-Nikodym theorem as an application),
and after that to Topics in Topology (including Arzela-Ascoli and Stone-Weierstrass theorems). We end the quarter with
Lp spaces and Banach spaces. See syllabus for more details.
IMPORTANT DATES:
- Final Exam: Wednesday, March 14, 2012, 2:30-5:30 p.m.
- There is no class on Monday, January 16, and Monday, February 20.
HOMEWORK AND GRADING POLICY:
- Homework 50%. There will be 8 weekly homework assignments due on Wednesdays the beginning of the class.
