I was born and went to school in Zagreb, Croatia.
As a high school student I was good in mathematics and participated in many mathematical competitions. I represented Croatia on two International Mathematical Olympiads (in 2003 and 2004). Both times I got a Honourable Mention.
I got a Graduated Engineer of Mathematics degree with a major in Mathematical Statistics and Computer Science form the Department of Mathematics, University of Zagreb. (I was the first person from my generation who graduated in that program. It was a different system then here in the US, and people would graduate once they passed all the exams (which they didin't have to do right away, and in some cases it was not possible to do so) and presented a Diploma Paper.) My Diploma Paper advisor was Professor Hrvoje Sikic.
As a student I worked as an editor in the Croatian Mathematical Society. At that time, I was appointed to the Executive Board, and also served as a member of the Assembly of the Society.
After graduation I was employed by the Division for Probability and Statistics at the Department of Mathematics, University of Zagreb as a Teaching/Research Assistant. I spent two years in the Mathematics PhD Program in Zagreb prior to coming to UW. (I am still employed at the University of Zagreb.)
My filed of interest is probability, and I am currently working under the guidence of Professor Krzysztof Burdzy. (More info on my research is available here.)
I am a member of the Croatian Mathematical Society, the American Mathematical Society and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics. I have received many awards, including the two Croatian Electrical Power Company Awards (for high school students), (Croatia's) National Scholarship, Merit Scholarship of the City of Zagreb, Tomo Horvatincic Foundation Fellowship, UW Department of Mathematics Academic Merit Award and McKibben and Merner Fellowship.
