Announcements:
- Announced 3/19/2005: Here are your grades.
I'll be happy to answer your grading questions, but please read carefully
the info at the top of the page first. I keep all my final exams for one
full quarter. But you are welcome to come take a look at your final during
my office hours once Spring Quarter starts. And if you've been waiting
all quarter to
pick up your final from Math 111, you can do that, too! Have a great
Spring Break.
- Announced 3/14/2005: Hey everybody! Sorry I wasn't able to be at your
final exam. I was over in Kane with my 111-ers. Your TAs and I are busy
grading your finals (and your TAs are taking finals of their own -- the
life of a grad student is a tough one). As soon as final grades are
computed, I will post everything right here. I don't expect that to
happen before the weekend, though. In the meantime, try to relax and
do well on your other finals or, if you're done, enjoy the time off.
- Announced 3/8/2005: Many end-o'-the-quarter announcements to follow:
- The final exam will be held this Saturday, March 12, from 5 to 8 p.m.
in ARC 147. You are expected to bring a calculator and one sheet of handwritten
notes. The exam is cumulative with about half of the material coming
from the new stuff (WS 20-25, PS 3).
- During Wednesday's lecture, I'll go over the following
review for the final exam.
- Since your final is Saturday, I think that your time on Friday morning
would be better spent studying and getting individual help than by coming
to class. So, I am canceling class on Friday. I will instead be in my office
from 9:30 to 12:30 to answer any questions you have. I will also be
in the MSC for most of the afternoon on Friday.
- Alison Johnston from the MSC and CLUE will be holding a review session on
Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. in Mary Gates Hall. Check at the CLUE info
desk in MGH for the room number.
- The MSC will be open this Friday afternoon from 12:30 to 4:30 and then
will close for the quarter.
- If you have any math-related questions, you can e-mail them to me. I
promise to answer any questions that I receive by midnight on Friday. After
that, I promise nothing.
- The Hints and Answers
for the Spring 2004 Final Exam have been posted. Please let me know if you
find any errors.
- Announced 3/4/2005: Here are
updated projected grades and
final grade predictions.
Feel free to e-mail or stop by the study center or make an appointment
to meet me if you have questions about your grade. But please read the
info at the top of the grades page first to make sure we haven't already
answered your question.
- Announced 3/1/2005: Here are the hints and answers for the second
midterm:
- Announced 2/23/2005: One more review session: TA Nathaniel Blair-Stahn
will hold a review session Wednesday, 4:30-6:30, in GUG 306. All Math 112
students are welcome.
- Announced 2/22/2005: A student just reminded me that one of your
activities was an old Derivative Skills Test. If you want more practice
with derivatives, here is
Activity 4 and
its key.
- Announced 2/22/2005: Updated time and place:MSC and CLUE tutor Alison Johnston will hold a review
session for this week's midterm from 9:00 to 11 p.m. on
Wednesday evening in Mary Gates 389.
Dr. T. will be in the MSC from 12:40 to 4:30 on Wednesday.
- Announced 2/22/2005: Exam II will be held in quiz section on Thursday,
February 24. It will cover Worksheets 12-19 (including WS 18A) and
Problem Set 2.
Please bring to the exam a calculator, a ruler,
photo ID, and one sheet of handwritten notes. The
FAQ containes advice on how to study in order
to do well on this exam. The
Math 112 Exam Archive
contains exams given in previous quarters. (WARNING: Your exam will not
look exactly like any of these exams. Your goal should not be to
memorize how to solve the problems on the old exams, but to learn how
to solve problems in general.)
- Announced 2/18/2005: There will be a page of derivatives on Exam II.
Since we used to give a separate Derivative Skills Test in Math 112, you
will not see a page of derivatives on any of the old exams. To give you
an idea of the level of difficulty you can expect on the test, here is
an old Derivative Skills Test and
its Answers.
- Announced 2/18/2005: The answer to the bunny/ferret example on the
handout to accompany Worksheet 19 is: cuddliness is maximized when
Gina buys 18 bunnies and 0 ferrets.
- Announced 2/17/2005: Here is a
review for Exam II. We'll go over this
in class on 2/18.
- Announced 2/5/2005: Here are
projected grades. Feel free to e-mail
or stop by the study center or make an appointment to meet me if you have
questions about your grade. But please read the info at the top of
the grades page first to make sure we haven't already answered your question.
- Announced 2/1/2005: I'll post grades over the weekend. In the meantime,
here are the answers to the exam:
- Announced 1/24/2005: Alison Johnston of the Math Study Center and
CLUE will be holding a review session for Math 112 on Wednesday, January 26,
from 7 to 9 p.m. in Mary Gates Hall, Room 284. Thanks a bunch Alison!
- Announced 1/23/2005: Here is the Review
for Exam I we'll talk about in class on Monday. This includes
a brief run-down of the basic rules for dealing with exponents.
- Announced 1/21/2005: Exam I will be held in quiz section on
Thursday, January 27. It will cover Worksheets 1-10 and Problem Set 1. (Note that we skipped Worksheets 2 and 8. These will not
be on the exam.) Please bring to the exam a calculator, a ruler,
photo ID, and one sheet of handwritten notes. The
FAQ contains advice on how to study in order
to do well on this exam. The
Math 112 Exam Archive contains exams given in previous quarters.
(WARNING: Your exam will not look exactly like any of these
exams. Your goal should not be to memorize how to solve only
the problems on the old exams, but to learn how to solve problems
in general.)
- Announced 1/20/2005: To make room for a bit more review for next
week's exam, we're going to skip Worksheet 11 and a few of the homework
problems that depend on it. Please check the homework schedule for the
updated assignment for Homework 2.5.
- Announced 1/6/2005: Sorry about the canceled class. All's well.
I've updated the course calendar
and the homework schedule to reflect
the changes. We'll be skipping Worksheet 2 (which I never really liked
anyway). See you in class on Friday.
- Announced 12/30/2004: Usually, you'll be able to find homework assignments
by clicking on the "homework schedule" link over on the right-hand side of this
page. But because it's so special, here's Homework 0:
- purchase your "text" (packet of worksheets and problem sets) from
Professional Copy'N'Print on the Ave
- purchase (from Odegaard library copy center) or download the
packet of lecture handouts and bring these
to class on Wednesday
- get a clear plastic ruler and a scientific calculator and bring
these to class on Wednesday
- read the FAQ for this course --- read it
carefully
- e-mail me if you
have any questions that aren't covered on the FAQ
