- Announced 5/16/2007: Here are the solutions to the sample exam.
- Announced 5/11/2007: The second midterm exam will be held in class on
Friday, May 18. The exam will cover everything we've done since the last exam. (That's homeworks 4, 5, and 6.) No books,
notes, or calculators will be allowed on the exam.
To study, I recommend reading through your lecture notes with the goal of understanding everything we've done in class. I also recommend attempting to re-do all of the homework problems.
Here is a sample exam. The sample exam is not meant to cover everything. You must have a thorough understanding of everything covered in lecture and on the homework.
Solutions to the sample exam will be posted early next week.
- Announced 4/21/2007: Here are solutions
to the Exam. You'll get your exams back on Monday.
- Announced 4/17/2007: Here are the solutions to the sample exam.
- Announced 4/15/2007: The first midterm exam will be held in class this
Friday. The exam will cover everything we've done so far. No books nor
notes will be allowed on the exam.
Here is a sample exam.
Solutions will be posted later this week.
- Announced 4/2/2007: I've created a discussion board for this course. You'll log in with your UWNetID. Let me know if you have any trouble logging in or using the board.
- Announced 3/30/2007: I didn't get as far in lecture today as I wanted. So, I am postponing Problems 2.38, 2.50, and 2.51 until the next homework assignment. The assignment is correct and complete as it is now posted on
the homework schedule. In addition, I have a few notes about the homework that IS due on Friday:
- Problem 1.41: The wording on this problem is vague. What I'd really like you to do is convince yourself that each of those statements is true. You can demonstrate each for me using a Venn diagram and different kinds of shading.
- Problem 1.47: You do not need to prove your conjecture in part (b).
- Problem 1.49: You do not need to do part (e). (It's true though.)
- Problem 1.50: Depending on which printing of the book you have, this problem may not be stated right. The correct problem is to prove that f(C∩D) &sube f(C) &cap f(D).
- Problem 2.17: You must also assume that x is not equal to 0.
- Announced 3/28/2007: Since I didn't announce in class on Monday that your first homework was actually due this Friday, I've pushed the due date for Homework 1 to Monday, April 2. Your second homework will still be due on Friday, April 6, and will be posted soon.
