Info on the Midterms is posted here. There will be two Midterms. Each Midterm is worth 50 points.

• Rules
  • One single-sided page of notes will be allowed
  • Non-graphing calculators are allowed
• Material covered
  • All material from chapter 3 covered in class or in the homework
  • There will be 5 questions total:
    • Undetermined Coefficients
    • Variation of Parameters
    • Mechanical Vibrations: critical damping, quasi-frequency and quasi-period
    • Mechanical Vibrations: Set-up
    • Mechanical Vibrations: Free damped vibrations, analysis of solutions
• Some practice problems you should be sure to do
  • § 3.6 # 20(a), 21(a)
  • § 3.7 # 5, 10
  • § 3.8 # 11 (HW4 pbl), 19, 20
• Here is the midterm from the last 307 class I taught; and the solutions. Note that the first problem on this test covers material from Chapter 4 which we haven't covered yet.

  • Partial Fractions (product of linear factors case)
• Some practice problems you should be sure to do
  • § 2.3 # 4 (this is an HW2 problem)
  • § 2.5 # 8, 9
  • § 2.7 # 2 (a, b), 3 (a, b) (these are HW2 problems)
  • For Separable, Linear and Exact equations you need to be able to do all the HW1 and HW2 problems dealing with these types of differential equations and you MUST be able to use the methods of integration listed above.
