Brown Bag Teaching/Learning Seminar #1
Deborah Hughes-Hallett

This year's teaching/learning Brown Bag seminars will be getting off to a spectacular start on Thursday, October 7. Our guest will be Deborah Hughes-Hallett, who knows mathematicians in more different countries than most of us do in different states. She will lead us in a discussion of the forces tending to change the teaching of mathematics from an international perspective (what is similar to here, what is not.) Those of you who have met Deb will know that this is guaranteed to be a lively discussion.

We will meet at NOON on October 7 in the Math Lounge. Note the early hour. This is because Deb is also speaking in the calculus/education seminar. A paper description of that seminar is on the bulletin board, and an electronic one will come out next week. I can tell you, though, that it will be at 1:30 in Padelford C-36, and that it, too, is going to be very interesting.
