Prerequisite: 2.5 in MATH 120, score of 68% on
MATHPC placement test, score of 75% on MATHEC placement test,
or score of 2 on AP test.
The Course:
This is the first quarter in calculus of functions of a single
variable. Emphasizes differential calculus, applications and
problem solving using the tools of calculus.
Grades:
Your grade is determined by how you do relative to the class as a whole.
Grades will be based on the following:
- Worksheets/Quizzes -- 10 %
- Homework -- 10 %
- Midterm one -- 20 %
- Midterm two -- 20 %
- Final -- 40 %
Homework: Homework is assigned weekly and
be collected in Quiz Section on Tuesday (except for week 1, 4, and 8).
You are responsible for all the problems assigned. We have a grader
to grade your homework, but the amount of homework that can be graded
is limited. No late homework will be accepted. Click here for

A packet containing all homework assignments, worksheets and old finals
is available at the U Bookstore. Of course you can also get the material
off from
Math 124
Materials website . Please note that our schedule is
slightly different from the one proposed at this websie.
Exams:
The first Midterm Exam will be given on April 17, (Tuesday week 4).
The first Midterm will cover Chapter 2 (and of course Chapter 1 as
precalculus).
The second Midterm Exam will be given on May 15, (Tuesday week 8).
The second Midterm will cover Chapter 3.
The final exam will take place on Saturday, June 2,
2007 from 1:30 to 4:20. The final exam will cover from
Chapters 1 to 4. Click here for

You must bring a Photo ID to all exams.
Rules for taking exams:
- You are allowed to use one page of two-sided handwritten 8.5 by 11
sheet of notes.
- Graphing calculators are not allowed on exams or
quizzes. You may use a simple scientific calculator.

- There are no make-up exams. If you have a compelling and
well-documented reason for missing a test, speak to Math Advising

Calculus: Early Transcendentals, 5th Edition
by James Stewart. We recommend students to read the textbook before
and after each lecture.
It is located in B14 Communications Building.
